The RIP Trike - What the Razor Drift Trike Could Have Been
Share
Basically, I wanted to put a massive 20" blade on the front wheel. It ended up taking two blades, bolted to the original hub and a 26 lb wheel...
I have never felt more fortunate to have a friend who's an engineer in manufacturing! This woulda been soooo much more expensive without his help. FOUR, 1/8th inch steel blades cost me $40. That steel ALONE from Lowes woulda cost $100+! And if I had bought 4 blades individually it would have been more like $600. That's where luck comes into play!
My original plan was to race two of these tricycles down a frozen river in a Mario Kart style race full of shenanigans. What I learned was 1. there was no way I could have made both of these in time. 2. It has to be cold as FUCK to freeze a river. 3. If the river is frozen, it's probably also covered in snow. So a change of plans led me to taking it back to Georgetown Lake where I filmed the original World's Most Dangerous Scooter video. They groom the ice there so it is free of snow and quite nice. There's also ice fisherman strewn about. That sounds like the only way one could make fishing more miserable...
When we got there, the winds were gusting up to 40 mph and sustaining at like 20. It was gnarly, and sooo tough to film in these conditions. That also meant no drone shots, unfortunately. But right out of the gate my buddy Jeremy started ripping the original tricycle on the ice and actually got good grip! I knew I'd probably be screwed right away and I was right. No shot at winning.
After reviewing the footage, I didn't feel like I hade enough to make a good video so the next day, I drove back there with the trike to get more B-Roll. This also led me on a 2 hour goose chase to find a frozen road to rip this down. Should be easy in the mountains of Colorado in December right? WRONG!
FUCK CLIMATE CHANGE.
Thankfully it worked out on some small patches of ice on some roads around St. Mary's Glacier (I seem to be going there a lot for these things...)
Anyways, right after I think I might get some momentum with 90K views this video inexplicably gets 500. So I hope you'll check it out. Like always, there's more than meets the eye.
Finally, this video was my ode to my role models who are all man-children. So many lose the joy and silliness that life has to offer once responsibilities begin to stack up and that's just a shame. So I hope this captured the essence of a nearly 30-year-old maintaining the attitude of a child at heart.
